Intel Mac Benchmark Smorgasbord

Macologist [ http://macologist.org/ ] has what is perhaps the largest set of benchmarks and statistical data on the new Intel Macs that’s been published to date. These guys run all manner of games on the MacBook Pro and the Intel iMac, and then go on to compare their results with a slew of PowerPC-based Macintoshes (including a G5 Quad-core) and a Windows PC just for good measure. The benchmarking isn’t just in the gaming area either, they do graphics and computational tests, as well as an array of other general tests like iTunes conversions and CPU and memory tests. All in all, the MacBook Pro seems to stand up and out above the rest significantly in many tests, making it definitely the must-have performance Macintosh on the market today, even robust in comparison with the AMD 64 3000+ they used for comparison testing with a Windows PC.

The results were pretty surprising, and definitely worth looking at if you’re considering purchasing a Mac in the near future or just want to know how the new Macs size up compared to their PowerPC predecessors, or even against a pretty well built Windows system.
