Microsoft released another desktop application to the theme of Windows Vista today, this one a combination feed aggregator and photo viewing/sharing application, that will allow folks currently running Windows XP to both read their favorite headlines from sites with RSS feeds as well as share your photos with friends through a Microsoft-centralized service that will send mail to your friends asking them to log in to Max and view your photos, serving them up from your computer. Think social networking meets photosharing meets news aggregation. Additionally, you can create albums and draw on photos without damaging the originals.

Max is still in beta, and it’s unclear how this application is going to fit into Windows Vista or the Windows Live set of services, but right now it’s available to try and see if you like it. I’m seeing mixed reviews so far, but it’s definitely worth giving a shot. It looks like Microsoft is trying to make something like iPhoto for Windows while adding some additional functionality.
